A RARE CHANCE AND A NOVEL EXPERIENCE

Kicking my heels for pursuing a Master's after completing my B.A.Honours in Sociology at the most prestigious University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, my heart leapt with joy when I got this opportunity. I was elated that after a very tough and thorough competitive selection I was considered eligible for the much sought-after MSG scholarship. What is more it was a novel experience studying here at UMISARC.

At the very outset I was overawed by the inspiring and superb infrastructural facilities of this place. The utilisation of modern technology in teaching methodology and the state of the art IT facilities combined with the services of the dedicated tutorial staff, made me just love this place. My expectations have not been proved wrong.   More than that, the interaction that this Institution offers with fellow students of varied cultures, hues and shapes gives me the feeling that I am part of the global family. I have already begun to dream of being ambassadors of goodwill, understanding and co-operation.

The highly innovative, multi-disciplinary curricula, the regular lectures, seminars, conferences, workshops, brainstorming sessions and cultural exchnges, imperceptibly lead us towards being the future leaders of the SAARC region.. Further, the unique environment of the university gives the students ample scope to  exhibit their latent but hidden talents.

The excellent academic ambience of the Institute has enriched me with an opportunity to acquire deep insights into South Asian Studies in particular and International Relations in general.   My experience is that the teachers here are very friendly and ever willing to help any student at any time for their progress. The class room environment is very comfortable and luxurious with air-conditioning and amplifier set up.

Trying to sum up the most precious and impressive experiences of the term I have spent at UMISARC, two words stick in my mind. For me it was about people and insights. People stand for each and every person I have met, from the executive to the workshop facilitator, from the students to the  local populace, from the learned professors to the tutors. I felt supported, inspired, intrigued, encouraged and motivated to find new ways of thinking, new ideas of how to live my life, new methods of talking, listening to and approaching one another. Being with this  colourful mixture of the students and Academia, attending the classes and seminars were very interesting.

I am grateful to Madanjeet Singh Ji who is engaged in this great philanthrophic effort. If not for him, my ambition to obtain a Masters would have remained a dream.
