On the morning of Sunday, 25 May, SAF-India chairman Hon. Mani Shankar Aiyar opened the 7th annual SAF Governing Council meeting in Durbar Hall at the Intercontinental Grand Palace Hotel Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir, India). The meeting was attended the SAF Advisors: N .Ram, Lady Mohini Noon, France Marquet and chairpersons of SAF chapters except for Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, (Chairman, SAF-Maldives) and Dr. Kamal Hossain (Chairman, SAF-Bangladesh). Dr. Hossain was represented by Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, (Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University) and Mr Farooq Sobhan (Former Foreing Secretary).
The Special Meeting of the SAF Governing Council was held on Monday, 27th November 2006, at 09.00 am at the South Asia Foundation India Chapter Office, A-33 Vasant Marg, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi 110 057.
The annual meeting of the Governing Council of the South Asia Foundation (SAF) was held in Paris, France, on 17th and 18th March 2006 at UNESCO Headquarters and the residence of Ambassador Madanjeet Singh. It was opened by Mr. Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO and attended by the Chairpersons of the eight SAF Chapters, Vice-Chancellors of South Asian universities, specially invited guests, secretaries of the Advisory Boards of SAF Chapters, and a number of Paris-based Ambassadors and Permanent Delegates to UNESCO and UNESCO officials. The list of participants is reproduced in an annex to this report.
Resolutions adopted by Chairpersons of South Asia Foundation Chapters on 15th December 2003, during the 3rd SAF General Conference in New Delhi - attended by Dr. Sayed Makhdoum Raheen (Afghanistan), Mr. Inder Kumar Gujral (India), Mr. Ibrahim Hussain Zaki (Maldives), Dr. Rita Thapa (Nepal), Mrs. Salima Hashmi (Pakistan), and Mr. Lakshman Kadirgamar (Sri Lanka). Mr. Lyonpo Sangay Ngedup (Bhutan) was unable to attend the meeting because of a national emergency in his country and Dr. Kamal Hossain (Bangladesh) could not reach New Delhi on time.
