Madam France Marquet while meeting with Professor Priyankar Upadhyaya, the UNESCO Chair for Peace and Intercultural Understanding at Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The discussion centered on bolstering regional academic and cultural cooperation through SAF and UNESCO-led initiatives.
She briefed on the successful functioning of UNESCO Chairs, highlighting the impactful work being undertaken in Chile and envisioning the establishment of forthcoming UNESCO Chairs at the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Centre for South Asia Water Management (UMCSAWM) and the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Centre for Green Energy Technology (UMSGET). These proposed chairs are expected to further UNESCO’s mission by advancing research and education in critical areas of sustainable development.
During the meeting, Mme. Marquet emphasized the fully funded scholarship programs offered by the Madanjeet Singh Institutions of Excellence. These scholarships provide invaluable opportunities for students across South Asia to pursue higher education in diverse fields, fostering regional integration and capacity building.
In her discussions with Professor Upadhyaya, Mme. Marquet proposed enhancing collaboration through a faculty exchange program, enabling academic institutions within South Asia to share expertise and knowledge. Such exchanges, she noted, would greatly enrich the academic experience for students and faculty alike, fostering intercultural understanding and unlocking the full potential of South Asian regional cooperation.
