The South Asia Foundation (SAF), a not-for-profit association that operates in India and the seven other countries of the SAARC community, has decided to further the goals of women's education and empowerment by pledging $1 million to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
The contribution has been announced on October 16 during a meeting of UNESCO's Goodwill Ambassadors in Paris. The money was pledged in a letter sent to Director-General Irina Bokova by France Marquet, a trustee of the South Asia Foundation. Marquet will be travelling to Paris from the south of France to present the cheque. Dr Kamal Hossain is the Chairperson of SAF Bangladesh Chapter and Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury is the Vice Chairperson.
