The UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Centre for Development Studies and Regional Cooperation (UMCDSRC) at National College, Kathmandu University, today organized a commemorative function to mark the 101st birth anniversary of the late Ambassador Madanjeet Singh – a visionary diplomat, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, and tireless advocate for regional harmony and tolerance.
The event brought together distinguished academics, alumni, and youth leaders to reflect on Ambassador Singh's enduring legacy and the continued importance of regional cooperation in South Asia.
Prof. Dr. Basu Dev Kafle, Chair of the Education Committee at the Nepal National Commission for UNESCO, graced the event as Guest of Honour. In his keynote remarks, Prof. Kafle emphasized both the challenges and untapped opportunities for regional collaboration, particularly in the areas of education, youth exchange, and sustainable development.
Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey, Chair of SAF-Nepal, provided a moving tribute to Ambassador Singh, highlighting his immense contributions to peace-building, cultural diplomacy, and the establishment of several South Asia Foundation (SAF) Centres of Excellence across the region. He also shared memories of the vibrant SAF alumni reunion held in December 2024 in Kathmandu, which witnessed the participation of over 360 alumni from across South Asia.
The college's Principal, Mr. Madhav Neupane, Vice-Principal Mr. Chhatra Karki, and Associate Professor Mr. Indresh Sharma also spoke on the occasion, underlining the importance of fostering inclusive dialogue and youth-led cooperation in shaping a peaceful South Asian future.
The commemorative function served not only as a tribute to a remarkable personality but also as a call to action for the younger generation to carry forward the torch of regional unity, peace, and sustainable development.
