Testimony from Mr Prasad Dharmasena, UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Study Alumnus (2009 Batch)

The Madanjeet Singh scholarship programme diverted my life and career into a new direction. It is with great honor to mention that a simple boy finally became the Director/CEO of National Institute of Plantation Management, Ministry of Plantation Industries,  Sri Lanka as result of the Madanjeet scholarship programme. The National Institute of Plantation Management (NIPM) is the only government organization empowered to award certificates for those who successfully complete academic/professional courses and confer professional memberships. simply the university of the plantation industry in Sri Lanka.
 
I am writing to express my sincere gratitude and honor to the late UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Dr. Madanjeet Singh for giving me a great opportunity to study at the University of Kashmir.   It is with great honor to thank Ma'am France Marquet and her team along with all staff of the Sri Lankan chapter.

May 2023 be an extraordinary year  and a greeting for the season.

Brief Profile of Dr Prasad Dharmasena

Dr. Prasad Dharmasena, SAF Scholar, UMIKS, 2009-12

Director and CEO, National Institute of Plantation Management, Ministry of Plantation, Sri-Lanka

Dr. Prasad Dharmasena is an exemplary renowned character in vital subjects of Environmental Management, Soil Conservation, and Agroforestry & Plantation Management with brilliance expertise knowledge spanning over 19 years. He held several positions including  Head of Agroforestry & Sustainability attached to Hayleys Group of Talawakelle Tea Estates & Kelani Valley Plantations of Sri-Lanka prior to present advocacy. He was academic staff of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka in the capacity of Lecturer & Subject Coordinator in Environmental Management. In addition to the this Dr. Dharmasena contributes immensely to state universities as a visiting lecturer in Environmental Conservation & Management. It should be placed on record that Dr. Dharmasena manifested preliminary experience in Plantation Management having worked in few Plantation Companies as Plantation Executive gaining wide experience in Agroforestry, Timber & Tea cultivation with the manufacture, too.

Dr. Dharmasena has completed his Ph.D. in Agroforestry and Regional Planning at the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Insitute of Kashmir Studies , University of Kashmir under the South Asia Foundation fully paid  scholarship. He also has completed a Master of Science in Natural Recourses management at the Post Graduate of the Agriculture of the University of Peradeniya of Sri Lanka. Completed Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management from the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. He has actively collaborated in Research & Development on facts finding along with research in Agroforestry & Environmental Management having extensively contributed towards Plantation Industry with subjugate Environmental Conservation, Biodiversity, Soil Conservation, Environmental Economics & Valuation. Dr. Dharmasena has contributed to the University of Kashmir as a Research scholar from 2009 to 2012. He is on the National Advisory Board of the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka as Member and also a Charted Biologist and Fellow Member of Institute of Biology, Sri Lanka and Member of Institute of Management of Sri-Lanka.
