Cognitive sciences in the Classroom: International Congress at UNESCO Headquarters, 28-29 March

Mme France Marquet SAF representative to UNESCO attended the International congress Cognitive Science in the classroom

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, France’s Minister of National Education and Youth Jean-Michel Blanquer, and then Stanislas Dehaene, President of the National Education Scientific Council (France), will open the International Congress on Cognitive Science in Schools, entitled Cognitive Sciences in the Classroom, Building Bridges for Evidence-based Education, at UNESCO Headquarters on 28 March, 9.30 a.m.

Co-organized by UNESCO and the Scientific Council of the French Education Ministry Education, this two-day conference will bring together some of the leading experts on the cognitive sciences to take stock of research results, compare different approaches at the international level and examine their impact on the future of schools.

Notable speakers will be Nandini Chatterjee Singh, UNESCO’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development in New Delhi (India), Esther Duflo, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA), Sidartha Ribeiro, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil), Zbigniew Marciniak, University of Warsaw (Poland) and Torkel Klingberg, Karolinska Institute (Sweden).

Research in areas such as brain plasticity, nutrition, sleep, attention cycles and the regulation of emotions has shown the influence of cognitive brain mechanisms learning starting in early childhood. The conference will explore ways to take the findings of cognitive science into account in the implementation of educational policies.
