In Mali the Ministry of National Reconciliation, in collaboration with the UNESCO office in Bamako, celebrated on 11 May 2015 at the TUMAST Cultural Centre the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-violence which had been awarded last 14 November to Mr Ibrahim Ag Idbaltanat.
The ceremony was organized during a crucial week for the history of Mali. Actually on 15 May another great event took place in Bamako, the signature of the peace agreement thus materializing these notions of peace, tolerance and non-violence so dear to our organization and to the Malian nation as a whole.
It has become the symbol of every effort made to build long-lasting peace through tolerance and non-violence.
Mr Ag Idbaltanat concluded his address by saying:
“When thinking of Madanjeet Singh whose prize bears his name I cannot help but feel proud, extremely proud.
I wish with all my might the humility of this great man accompany us. Artist, writer, diplomat, philanthropist, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, citizen of the world, freedom-fighter, he showed us throughout the 88 years of his life the most noble path: that of respect for human dignity through tolerance, non-violence and philanthropy, while practising self-abnegation and giving his own wealth for the happiness of others.
