Call for Nomination :- 2015 UNESCO Kalinga Prize for the Popularization of Science

UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General of the Natural Sciences Sector is pleased to announce that the call for nominations is now open for the 2015 UNESCO Kalinga Prize for the Popularization of Science.

Nominations will be accepted until 29 May 2015. Nominations should be submitted to Director-General by the governments of Member States, in consultation with their National Commissions, and by non-governmental organizations maintaining official partnerships with UNESCO. Each Member State and non-governmental organization may designate one candidate.

This year’s winner will be awarded by the Director-General on 4 November 2015 during the World Science Forum to be held in Budapest (Hungary). The recipient will receive a monetary award of $20,000, a certificate, and the UNESCO Albert Einstein silver medal.

The Prize is an international distinction recognizing an individual’s work to interpret science, research and technology to the general public. To date, 66 individuals from 24 countries have received this award; six of whom have also been Nobel-Prize winners.

Previous Winner 2013: Professor Xiangyi LI

Xiangyi Li is a professor and popular science expert. He was one of the main founders and then the director of the China Science and Technology Museum. He was the president of Science Popularization Department in the China Association for Science and Technology. He is currently the Honorary President of China Association of Natural Science Museums, adviser to Science Popularization Task of Beijing Municipal Government, Executive Deputy Director of the Research Center of Science Communication and Education, Beijing Normal University, and adjunct Professor of Peking University and Beijing Normal University.
