UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of South Asia Regional Cooperation and UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Green Energy Technologies jointly organised a condolence meeting at UMISARC Auditorium on 17.01.2013 at 3.30 pm to mourn the demise of Ambassador Madanjeet Singh, Founder Trustee and Chairperson of the South Asia Foundation (SAF). Ambassador Singh passed away at Beaulieu-sur-Mer in France on 6 Jan 2013. He was 89.
The meeting was presided over by Dr. Mohanan B Pillai, Director, UMISARC and the condolence message was read out by Dr. Sampath, Registrar Pondicherry University, in the presence of Prof. J.A.K. Tareen, Vice chancellor of Pondicherry University.
"On behalf of the members of the Executive Council, faculty members, officers, staff and the students of Pondicherry University and on my own behalf, express our deep sorrow over the passing away of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Madanjeet Singh, the Founder of the South Asia Foundation (SAF). In his multidimensional role as a former diplomat, artist, writer, philanthropist and a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador especially since 2000, he has played a sterling role in promoting sustainable cultural, educational and economic development throughout South Asia.
Ambassador Singh’s affectionate generosity and financial benevolence helped Pondicherry University to establish two academic institutes of excellence namely UNESCO Madanjeet Institute of South Asia Regional Cooperation and UNESCO Madanjeet Singh School of Green Energy Technologies. These two institutions have really made his dream come true by bringing all South Asian young minds to come closer on a single platform to create a peaceful and prosperous South Asia.
The sudden demise of Amb. Madanjeet Singh at the ripe age of 89 is deeply felt by all the members of the university. His dedication and vision towards building a unique South Asia will also inspire all the faculty of this university in making his dream come true.
