South Asia Foundation pledges $1 million to Unesco

The South Asia Foundation (SAF) has decided to further the goals of women education and empowerment by pledging one million dollars to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), a press release said.

The contribution has been announced recently during a meeting of Unesco’s Goodwill Ambassadors in Paris.

The money was pledged in a letter sent to Director-General Irina Bokova by France Marquet, a trustee of the South Asia Foundation. Ms. Marquet will be travelling to Paris from the south of France to present the cheque.

SAF is a not-for-profit association that operates in the eight countries of SAARC to promote regional cooperation through mainly educational programmes.

Dr. Kamal Hossain is the chairperson of SAF Bangladesh Chapter and Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury is the vice-chairperson.
