Undertake quality research to promote Kashmiriyat: Guv to scholars

Srinagar, Oct 3: Governor, N N Vohra, on Monday urged the scholars at Institute of Kashmir Studies (IKS) to undertake quality research on various aspects of contemporary relevance to promote the high traditions of Kashmiriyat.

Speaking at a high level meeting at Rajbhawan here, the Governor emphasized on the usefulness of all required initiatives being launched to bring about progressive improvement in the functioning of the IK S, including particular attention to the provision of the requisite infrastructure and manpower.

The Governor, who is also the chairman of IKS, pointed to the profitability of evolving a broad framework for the selection of scholars from home and abroad, identification of the nature of subjects for pursuing research projects, the number of scholars to be admitted annually, the tenure of the scholarship and other issues.

Member of Parliament and Chairperson, South Asia Foundation (SAF), India Chapter, Mani Shankar Ai yar spoke about his interaction with the scholars at the Institute last evening. “I was impressed with many innovative things being done to carry out the research efforts in the Institute,” he said.

Aiyar suggested that the research projects being pursued by the SAARC scholars at the IKS should have relevance with reference to the objectives of the Institute.

Discussions held for making IKS a centre of excellence in research

SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Discussions were held at the Raj Bhawan here today for identifying initiatives to enable the Institute of Kashmir Studies (IKS), a centre of excellence for undertaking quality research on various aspects of contemporary relevance and to promote the high traditions of Kashmiriyat at a high level meeting chaired by Governor N. N. Vohra, who is the chairman of IKS.

Mani Shankar Aiyar, Member of Parliament chairperson, South Asia Foundation (SAF), India Chapter, New Delhi, Prof. Veena Sikri, vice chairperson, SAF, India Chapter, P. K. Prabhakaran, its Executive Director, R. K. Goyal, Principal Secretary to the Governor and Prof. G. M. Khawaja, Professor Research, IKS, University of Kashmir, participated in the meeting.

The Governor emphasized the usefulness of all required initiatives being launched to bring about progressive improvement in the functioning of the IKS, including particular attention to the provision of the requisite infrastructure and manpower.

After discussions, Aiyar, chairman SAF (India) stated that Prof. Sikri would draw up a charter for the IKS, in suitable consultation with R. K.. Goyal and Prof. Khawaja. Mr. Aiyar also pointed to the need for disseminating among the SAF Institutes the work done by the IKS through internet and modes of communication, for securing enhanced linkages among these institutions.
