It is a week to go before our Final Thesis Examination and Exhibition. This is the most frantic, busy but also inspiring time of year. We started the MA program rather tentatively, but it seems we are beginning to attract students from our South Asian family, we have a boy from Bangladesh and a girl from Maldives. we also had two from Nepal, but after one Semester, the boy, Raju won a German Govt scholarship [DAAD] a very coveted one! Since Sajana his wife was also also offered a place at his University they have now both left. However two MORE students from Nepal who graduate this year will return for the MA. One of them is Koshal who wrote that lovely piece on their study tour of Karachi.
As you can imagine the success stories in the fields of communication design, photography, and art has been achieved with a great deal of hard work by the truly excellent team we have here. I was almost in tears at a critique of the 3rd years when the Girl from Afghanistan, Hanifa showed her work. It was totally based on the tribulations of being an Afghan female AND a Hazara. I gave her an A plus. Currently all FIVE of our Afghan students are Hazara and their work is outstanding. They tell me all the time that they never dreamed they would have the chance to be in a place like BNU where they not only meet teachers and professionals from all over the world but are doing collaborative projects across the globe on the internet. The world has literally opened up for them.
