Academic Activities of Institute of Kashmir Studies

  1. Research Programme at M. Phil and Ph. D level.

    • Students from SAARC Countries are admitted to the Programme under Madanjeet Singh Scholarship Scheme. (Funds provided by SAF).
    • Students from National Universities.
  2. A Special course on South Asian History, Culture, Economics and International relations.
  3. Extension lectures / Symposia in the fields of South Asian Studies / Kashmir Studies.
  4. Workshops on issues related to South Asia.
  5. Seminars.
  6. Publication of Journal and Monographs.
  7. Translation of the Ancient and Medieval texts related to Kashmir into English and Kashmiri.
  8. Documentation of the Folklore and interviews with the eminent Kashmiri Scholars, performing artists and poets


The Institute of Kashmir Studies


The Institute of Kashmir Studies was initially established in April 2006 as Centre for Kashmir Studies. In the month of November 2007 the University of Kashmir signed an MoU with South Asia Foundation (SAF). As per the terms of the MoU the nomenclature of the organization was changed from centre for Kashmir Studies to Institute of Kashmir Studies and it was registered with the Registrar of Societies as an independent legal entity. The SAF has pledged to support the institute financially for a period of five years, so that it becomes an Institute of Excellence in the concerned field.
