 Letter from DG-UNESCO

l have the honour to invite your Government to submit nominations for the 2022 UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence.

In these times of uncertainty, we need the values highlighted in the  of Principles on Tolerance, adopted by UNESCO in 1995, more than ever.

The UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize was also established in 1995 to mark the United Nations Year for Tolerance and the 125th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. Since 1996, it has been awarded biennially on 16 November, the International Day for Tolerance and the anniversary of the founding of UNESCO.

In 2022, the Prize will be awarded for the 13th time. It consists of a financial award of US$100,000, offered by the Madanjeet Singh Foundation. The laureate is selected by the Prize jury.

In accordance with the Statutes of the Prize, nominations may be submitted by the Governments of Member States in consultation with their National Commissions, as well as by non-governmental organizations and foundations maintaining official  relations with UNESCO and active in a field covered by the Prize.

l am confident you will give this Prize ail due attention and propose your country's most qualified candidates.

We would be grateful if you would return the attached nomination form to the indicated address by 15 June 2022 at the latest, so that jury can examine the nominations.
