New Delhi, February 1, 2025 – The nation mourns the passing of Mr. Navin B. Chawla, Former Chief Election Commissioner of India and Chairperson of the South Asia Foundation-India (SAF-India). He passed away on February 1, 2025, leaving behind an enduring legacy of service, compassion, and leadership.
Mr. Chawla’s contributions to society were profound and far-reaching. His unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes, particularly through The Lepra India Trust for the Hearing Impaired, touched the lives of thousands. Under his guidance, numerous vocational programs for deserving students flourished, transforming the future of over 10,000 individuals. His commitment extended to leprosy patients, ensuring that they received care and dignity in their journey toward rehabilitation. Besides, he was deeply involved in several institutions of higher learning, including Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka.
A close associate of Mother Teresa, Mr. Chawla was deeply influenced by her philosophy of selfless service. His relentless advocacy for the marginalized echoed his values, as he worked tirelessly to uplift those in need. His association with the Madanjeet Singh Foundation and South Asia Foundation further underscored his vision for regional cooperation, peace, and development.
